UAE programme brings smiles to thousands

SWAT — Celebrating its first anniversary, UAE Assistance Programme for Pakistan, has raised the UAE flag in 124 towns and villages in Pakistan, bringing the smile and relief to hundreds of thousands of those affected by earthquakes and floods.

Through its diverse projects in basic services of health, education, water, roads and bridges, the initiative has really eased the suffering of those people, making life more easier for them.

The programme, a true reflection of the longstanding ties between the two countries, is futuristic initiative adopted by the UAE for the rehabilitation and development of flood-affected areas of Pakistan and it includes: re-construction of schools, rehabilitation of medical facilities, provision of safe drinking water and rebuilding of infrastructure. It is another step to strengthen the great friendship between Pakistan and UAE.

Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli, Director of the Programme, said the project is complementary to the UAE efforts in the humanitarian field worldwide upon the directives by the UAE wise leadership.

UAE Ambassador Essa Abdullah Al Basha Al Nuaimi hosted a reception at the Jinnah Convention Centre to mark the first anniversary celebrations of the United Arab Emirates Assistance Programme for Pakistan.

Ambassador Nuaimi assured Pakistan of UAE’s continued assistance to help the victims of the calamity-affected areas. He added that his country had a rich history of bilateral cooperation with Pakistan, especially under the leadership of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who are very keen to enhance it further. —
