UAE expresses solidarity with Morocco after deadly flash floods

The United Arab Emirates has expressed its sincere condolences and solidarity with Morocco over the victims of floods that occurred in Safi, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries and caused significant damage.

Drought-hit Morocco often faces severe weather, but Sunday's flooding in Safi is already the deadliest such disaster in at least a decade.

A muddy torrent swept cars and bins from the streets in Safi, which is around 300 kilometres (186 miles) south of the capital, Rabat.

Schools have been closed for at least three days with mud and debris clogging the streets.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, and to Morocco and its people over this tragedy.

The ministry also said it wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.
