Federal Minister of State for Human Resources Development Shashi Tharoor has sought to restrain his opponents from trying to cash in on his personal loss by moving the Election Commission (EC) against them.
Tharoor, who is seeking re-election from the Trivandrum Lok Sabha constituency, has sent a signal to those making a smear campaign against him over the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar at a hotel in New Delhi a couple months ago by filing a complaint in three cases. One involves M Vijayakumar, state committee member of the Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPM), who gave the Congress candidate a doctorate in violence against women. The former minister made the derogatory remarks while inaugurating the election committee office of the Left Democratic Front candidate.
“Tharoor is not a professional doctor. He has got a doctorate. This is a special degree. We do not know in which subject he has got it but I am sure that he will get one in atrocities against women,” the CPM leader said while alluding to the mysterious death of Sunanda.
The other case is against Communist Party of India legislator Sunil Kumar for accusing Tharoor of murdering his wife in a discussion in the Reporter channel on Monday night and the channel authorities for not stopping the baseless allegation.
