The Telangana police were kept on their tenterhooks following an anonymous call threatening to eliminate the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The police stepped up security for the Chief Minister following a call received by a legislator of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) K Vidyasagar Rao.
Soon after receiving the call on his mobile, Rao, who represents Korutla Assembly constituency in Karimnagar district, informed the police. The caller, who did not identify himself, threatened to cause harm to the Chief Minister during the latter's scheduled visit to Karimnagar district.
Following the development, the police beefed up security for the chief minister and also thoroughly sanitized the route that he was to take. Unfazed by the threat call, KCR, as the Chief Minister is known in political circles, went ahead with the schedule.
and attended the marriage of Peddapally MP Balka Suman's sister Swarna held at a function hall in Metpally town in Karimnagar district on Wednesday.
"When I was inspecting the arrangements for inauguration of the newly constructed veterinary college building at Korutla, I received three missed calls on my mobile phone. When I picked up the call fourth time, the caller held out a warning that the Chief Minister will be attacked when he visits the district," the MLA recalled.
A thick security blanket was thrown around the helipad and also at the marriage venue. It was only after the Chief Minister left the function hall that the police heaved a sigh of relief.
"Apparently, it was an internet call. The Intelligence Bureau has been informed about the development. We are further probing the matter," the police sources said. "We are trying to trace the caller," the District Superintendent of Police D Joel Davis said.
