Sheikh Mohamed praised the pope for dedicating his life to promoting the principles of peaceful coexistence and understanding

UAE leaders have extended condolences on the death of Pope Francis on Monday.
In a tweet, President Sheikh Mohamed said: "I extend my deepest condolences to Catholics around the world on the passing of Pope Francis, who dedicated his life to promoting the principles of peaceful coexistence and understanding. May he rest in peace."
The Vatican announced earlier that the pontiff, who was the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, has died.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler also said on X: We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis".
He praised the late pontiff as a "great leader whose compassion and commitment to peace touched countless lives. His legacy of humility and interfaith unity will continue to inspire many communities around the world."
Pope Francis was 88, and had suffered various ailments in his 12 year papacy.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected pope on March 13, 2013, surprising many Church watchers who had seen the Argentine cleric, known for his concern for the poor, as an outsider.
