Sharifs are most popular, Imran down in survey

ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry leads on top in popularity rating, according to a Gallop Survey conducted by the Gallop Pakistan.

The new ratings of the national leadership in the country showed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry as the leading figure with 16 points. President of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif has emerged as the most popular political leader with 12 points. After him is brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif as second most popular politician with 10 points. Chairman of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf, Imran Khan, who has been leading in most Western polls at the top could secure only 5 points.

The survey was conducted in July 2011 to evaluate the public opinion about the political leadership and the popularity of the government.

It shows Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani amongst the politicians with popularity in the negative domain at minus 29th position. MQM chief Altaf Hussain was shown on the minus 41st, PML-Q chief Shujaat Hussain on the minus 40th, Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the minus 38th and Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawwar Hassan on the minus 18th. The topper on the minus list was Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali, who was shown on the minus 48th position in the survey.

The survey gave Shahbaz Sharif top position with 27 points in performance among chief executives of all four provinces. All the three other chief ministers are negatively rated due to their failure in performing well in the offices.
