Memon, who arrived here from Islamabad after meeting President Asif Ali Zardari, tendered his resignation as provincial information minister. He told newsmen that friendship and career were two different things and should not be mixed.

Till late afternoon Memon’s resignation was not accepted as according to a presidential statement a decision would be taken by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah in this regard.

“I still support Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and will remain loyal to the party. I accept party leadership’s decisions without any hesitation, but I’m also friend of Mirza at the same time and will remain so for as long as I live,” he said.

“There can be people holding two different opinions in the same party,” he added.

Memon was unhappy that his explanation to visit London was not accepted by the party leadership which pained him and made the decision to quit his post easier as the cabinet post belonged to party.

On his decision to resign, Memon said that he quit because his presence in London was an act disliked by the party leadership, even though he had no malicious intentions.

“I have apologised and also voluntarily resigned for tarnishing the image of the party.”

Memon also reiterated that he had gone to London on a personal trip and it was not linked to Mirza’s activity. “It was just a coincidence and nothing else that I was booked on the same flight as Mirza’s.
