Man who lost job due to Covid-19 wins $5.8 million in lotto draw

Left jobless due to the coronavirus pandemic, a young Australian father had luck on his side as he won $5.8 million in the Oz Lotto draw.
The lucky winner, who worked as security guard, was buying groceries for his three-year-old daughter when he spotted the Lotterywest sign and bought a ticket at Canning Vale Newsagency in Perth's south.
The man was one of two division one winners from Tuesday night's draw with the other winning ticket bought from Brisbane. It is the largest win in Western Australia in almost two years when a $10 million Oz Lotto win in Albany since October 2018, reported Daily Mail.
"I just want to go home and hug my daughter. I always say that life could be a dream, and this certainly feels like one. I'm always reading the news about Lotto winners and never thought it could be me," the winner told Lotterywest officials.
Speaking about how he intends to spend his winnings, the man from Armadale in Perth's south-eastern outskirts, said that he first plans to tell his brother about his stroke of luck. "I really look up to him and he's been struggling to find the finances to buy a house but I'm going to buy him a whole house now," the man said.
Following this, the winner said he wants to finish his commerce degree and learn how to manage money. "My mum will be getting a new car and I'll buy myself a house and also set up my kids," he added.
While all profit raised from Lotterywest tickets will go into the Covid-19 Relief Fund, Lotterywest spokeswoman, Hermione Coleman, said.
