Glass-bottomed deck opens atop China's 'horizontal skyscraper'; check out the view

As a precautionary measure against coronavirus, all visitors to the Exploration Deck are required to wear masks and have their temperatures checked.

China opened for the public its newest attraction 'The Crystal' - the 250-metre-tall glass-bottom skyscraper. The structure is the world's highest horizontal skyscraper and stretches 350 meters across four of the eight skyscrapers that make up Raffles City Chongqing.

However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, currently the limit of visitors has been restricted to 3,000 per day wherein each visitor will be allotted a time slot.

Designed by Moshe Safdie, who also designed Singapore's awe-inspiring Changi Jewel, The Crystal recently unveiled its first attraction The Exploration Deck, spanning over 1,500 square meters.

"The Exploration Deck is the first major attraction to launch in Chongqing since the lifting of the country's nationwide lockdown and the public's enthusiastic response is yet another encouraging sign of recovery in consumer sentiment," Lucas Loh, president of the CapitaLand Group in China was quoted as saying in CNN Travel.

As a precautionary measure against coronavirus, all visitors to the Exploration Deck are required to wear masks and have their temperatures checked. "Hand sanitizers are provided at each of the touchscreen panels and frequent sanitizing is carried out at areas with higher touch points - lifts and interactive panels, for example," a CapitaLand spokesperson said.

Yet to be opened, the rest of The Crystal sky bridge will have The Private Club, a members-only clubhouse, as well as 6,000-square-metre The Sky Garden which will house "six restaurants and bars with different dining concepts." It is expected to open to the public in the third quarter of 2020.

The sky bridge is made up of 12,000 tons of steel, 3,000 pieces of glass panels and about 5,000 aluminum panels. The 9.2-hectare complex also includes a 230,000-square-meter shopping mall, which opened in September last, and 1,400 residential apartments, besides a luxury hotel and several offices.
