Some 400 delegates from around the sultanate attended the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) seminar with Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Futaisi, Executive President of Oman Medical Specialty Board, as the chief guest.

COPDis a progressive lung disease that makes it hard to breathe. Dr. Hussein Al Kindi, President of ORS, said there had been “exponential growth” in knowledge in the field in the recent years with the introduction of new therapeutic agents and treatment methods.

He said respiratory diseases ranked second after cardiovascular diseases in terms of mortality, incidence, prevalence and costs. Prevalent and debilitating lung diseases such as COPD, Kindi said, remained under-diagnosed in 75 per cent of cases.
