The Sindh government has categorically dissociated itself from a malicious campaign through a series of advertisements in the media against paramilitary Rangers.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has suspended Senior Superintendent Police Latif Siddiqui who had reportedly launched the campaign. He has also ordered a probe into the campaign.
Meanwhile, the Rangers spokesman has strongly repudiated the campaign calling it a conspiracy to torpedo the Karachi operation. He said that the paramilitary force "has every right to adopt legal course against the elements involved in tarnishing its image among masses".
Taking strong exception to the advertisements published in certain dailies seeking public assistance for recovery of certain 'abducted' individuals allegedly by unnamed personnel of the Rangers, the spokesman said "it was an attempt to affect peace and normalcy restored in Karachi".
