Vasudevan, 54, the deceased, from Malappuram in Kerala, had been in Oman for nearly 30 years and owned several shops dealing in building materials. His body was found by his employees who went searching after he did not turn up at work on Tuesday.

He had left for home the previous night as usual with the day’s earnings from his shops.

The bag in which he was carrying the money was said to be missing, raising suspicions that theft could be the motive for the crime.

There was reportedly no blood on the body, but a piece of cloth was tied around the neck.

Vasudevan’s body was found about an hour before his wife Vimala and three of his four children arrived in Muscat to spend their holidays with him, unaware of the tragedy.
