Plan to monitor phone calls, e-mails, SMSs
Pakistan government has decided to monitor each and every phone call, e-mail and SMS relayed abroad before the end of 2012, it was learnt.
The main reason behind the move is to monitor and curb any blasphemous or obscene content on the Internet that has increased manifold in recent months especially after the recent blasphemous content appeared on social media that provoked protests across Pakistan.
Accordingly the country’s regulator the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has assigned 14 LDIs, including PTCL, to install the monitoring equipment and monitor them.
