PIA to carry relief goods free of cost for flood-hit

DUBAI — Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will transport relief goods for Pakistan’s flood victims free of cost from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Karachi, the airline’s regional office in Dubai announced on Tuesday.

Used and old goods, all kinds of liquids, milk, water etc will not be accepted in relief goods.

“As always, in the hour of national need, PIA, the national airline of Pakistan, is rising to the occasion to help these flood devastated people of Pakistan by providing transportation of relief goods free of cost,” said Ali Tahir Qasim, PIA’s Regional Manager, Dubai, Northern Emirates, Middle East, Africa and CIS. All cargo will be delivered at PIA cargo terminals to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The items which are urgently required are: dry milk, water purifying tablets/ ORS, biscuits, dates, other dry food items, medicines / life saving drugs, mosquito repellents, water purifying devices/plants, blankets, and tents. Ready to eat non-perishable foodstuff will be uplifted on priority. For expeditious transportation they should be packed in cardboard cartons of 14” x15” x12” dimensions.

In Dubai, relief goods will be accepted for booking by PIA GSA, OTTA Cargo, at Dubai Cargo Village, during their office timings 8:30 am till 5:30 pm for dispatch to Karachi.

The shipments can be accepted from relief organisations, registered NGOs and charitable organisations. The request for transportation will have to be made on the organisation’s letterhead.

Proper packing will be required for air transportation to ensure safe handling of cargo / aircraft.

The shipments will be consigned to NDMA for transportation to Karachi only.

All relief goods will be dispatched on first available service subject to availability of space.

The shippers will not be charged for any airline charges ie freight, fuel and security, however they will have to bear the cost of local handling, custom clearance, local government or any other applicable charges.
