Parliament re-elects Talabani president of Iraq
BAGHDAD - Iraq lawmakers voted to retain Kurdish incumbent Jalal Talabani as the country’s president on Thursday, another step toward forming a new government after they earlier picked a Sunni politician as speaker of parliament.
Talabani won the presidency despite a walkout by about 60 members of the Iraqiya alliance who said they were angry because they thought agreements between bloc leaders were not being honoured, a sign of difficult relations ahead.
