After getting consent form Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) Ayaz Sadiq, a panel of the upper house has decided to take action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan for his ‘contemptuous’ remarks against the Senate.

The announcement comes a day after the PTI chief demanded resignation of the National Assembly speaker for verification of votes in NA-122, Lahore.

MQM’s Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, told a local English daily that the Speaker had recognised the demands of the upper house. He added that Imran, a member of the lower house, would be summoned before a panel of the upper house soon.

Mashhadi, who has been elected chairman of the Committee on Rules of Procedure for the third consecutive time, said that the matter would be dealt with impartiality.

Imran during an interview had alleged that some people paid to become members of the Senate and some others had spoken in support of the US for favours and also received dollars in return.

As many as 26 senators belonging to all parties including the ruling PML-N, PPP, MQM, PML-Q, JUI-F and even independent candidates signed the motion against Imran’s comments.
