The air offensive was carried out in different areas of Upper Orakzai tribal region, where the military has been battling Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked insurgents.

“More than 10 militants were killed and four hideouts were destroyed when Pakistani jets shelled rebel positions in Zakhtan, Dabori and Ghiljo areas,” a spokesman for the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) told AFP.

Orakzai is one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions, which Washington calls the most dangerous place in the world. These regions near the Afghan border are rife with homegrown insurgents and are strongholds of Taliban and Al-Qaeda operatives.

A local intelligence official confirmed the strikes and the killings, but there was no way of independently ascertaining the death toll as the area is off-limits to journalists.
