A report about verification of voters’ thumb impression revealed that over 10,000 fake votes were cast in the Sindh Assembly constituency PS-32 Khairpur-IV during 2013 general election.
The seat was won by PPP’s Manzoor Wassan. Claiming rigging in the election, the runner up, Mir Shah Nawaz Khan Talpur of PML-F, had challenged the results in an election tribunal.
The tribunal sent 61,307 votes to Nadra for the verification of voters’ thumb impression. Nadra could verify only 28,295 votes, less than 50 per cent of the total votes cast in the constituency.
The report said 10,239 votes were fake while 22,525 votes could not be unverified. — Online
