Navy prepared to safeguard maritime interests, says Pakistan PM

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan’s naval forces are fully prepared to guard the country’s maritime frontiers and interests.

He reposed complete trust and confidence in the professional capabilities of the Pakistan Navy during a visit to the Naval Headquarters.

The prime minister said that he fully realises the importance of maritime sector, its great economic potential, and the fact that Pakistan’s lifeline is its international trade which is mostly carried through the sea.

He further said that it is most reassuring to learn that “our navy is fully prepared and geared up to safeguard our maritime interests including the defence of our sea borders.”

The government will provide full support for the development plans of the navy to ensure that it remains a balanced and effective force capable of meeting the future challenges.

Earlier, a detailed briefing was given by Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (Operations) on ‘Operational preparedness of the Pakistan Navy’. Federal Ministers of Defence alongwith senior officers of the navy attended the briefing. — Online
