The Gujarat police on Wednesday found the mutilated body of a semi-clad woman who was murdered and dumped in a travel suitcase that was found lying near railway tracks in Surat.
The killers had disfigured the face of the 25-year-old woman in a bikini with sharp-edged weapons and even defaced a big tattoo on her right arm to make identification difficult.
The police, who had been alerted about the abandoned bag by a passer-by, said on Thursday that preliminary investigations had revealed that the victim had been strangulated to death only 12 hours ago before stuffing her body in the red bag.
Sources in the office of the Gujarat director-general of police told Khaleej Times that there were no signs of sexual assault but the post-mortem report could throw more light.
