MQM’s call came after PML-N leaders had made a similar demand for Karachi, who held the MQM responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in the metropolitan. The MQM made its demand in a meeting of party’s coordination committee. The meeting alleged that Punjab had witnessed 109 per cent rise in crime rate.

“Incidents of terrorism, killings and kidnappings for ransom are at their peak in Punjab where life and property of the people are no longer safe,” a MQM statement here said.

“We also propose handing over of the province to the army to bring the situation under control which has been in mess because of bad governance and rampant crimes as the provincial government has failed to deliver,” it said.
