The review petitions were filed in SC’s Karachi registry against the orders issued on November 26 and 28 by the apex Court. MQM had been a bitter critic of the delimitation of the constituencies in the country’s commercial centre.
MQM is the only political party that had challenged the apex court verdict and vowed to fight claiming it was a deliberate attempt to undermine the mandate of the party and demanded that the census should be carried out first in the country and then the delimitation. It had also questioned why delimitation restricted to Karachi alone.
With the exception of MQM, all other political parties had welcomed the delimitation order. Party’s Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar told media that “delimitation cannot be carried out without first holding a census.
