Newborn baby has a successful duodenal surgery
A newborn Bahraini baby suffering from congenital duodenal obstruction has undergone a successful surgery at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). A SMC medical team conducted the 90-minute surgery on the two-day-old girl who was being kept under medical observation at the neonatal intensive care unit. The Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Training at the Health Ministry, Dr Mohammed Amine Al Awadhi, said that the baby was in stable condition, adding that her vital organs were functioning normally. "The girl, who was born with a congenital duodenal obstruction, is kept under medical observation until she recovers fully so as to be nursed normally", said pediatric consultant Dr Al Awadhi. The paediatric consultant surgeon, Dr Fayza Haidar, said that only one in 5,000 newborn babies suffer from such a congenital deformity. "Bahrain witnessed five similar cases only over the past 25 years", she said, adding that newborn babies with such a congenital deformity remain in critical situation until they undergo surgeries and start growing normally without any health complications. The SMC team which conducted the surgery included Dr Al Awadhi, Dr Haidar, Dr Ezzat Abrar, Dr Milda Khalil, Dr Aslam Khan in addition to the nursing staff.
