Mohammed welcomes investors to health sector

DUBAI - His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday welcomed local, Arab and foreign investors to the health sector to make the UAE a key provider of healthcare to local and regional patients and their pain of travelling abroad for treatment.

Inaugurating the Saudi German Hospital, the largest private hospital in the region constructed at a cost of over Dh400 million, Shaikh Mohammed said health tourism in the UAE is the focus of his attention and of his government as well as national relevant entities.

He referred to the diverse, ultra-modern infrastructure in the UAE which attracts investors to the medical sectors and other fields.

After the inauguration, he tweeted, “During the visit, I saw the advanced medical facilities and equipment; I trust the hospital will add value to the healthcare sector in the UAE.”

The 300-bed Saudi German Hospital is regarded as the largest private hospital in the Middle East and North Africa region, with an area of more than 100,000 square metres. The hospital, located in Al Barsha, has already begun to attract some of the best and most qualified medical practitioners.

Sobhi Batterjee, president and CEO of Saudi German Hospitals Group, said: “We at the Saudi German Hospital are working to make this operation the showcase of the group in the UAE. I can confidently say that this hospital will be a dominant player in the private healthcare industry of the region and attract patients from across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.”

Many reputed medical experts have pointed out that the Saudi German Hospital – Dubai will add substantial quality to the healthcare standards of the region. The hospital will also strengthen the level of healthy competition amongst medical facilities that would in turn reflect positively on patients.

“As the largest private hospital in the region, we plan to use this to our advantage and attract some of the best talent in the medical business. We’re looking to hire superlative talent with unparalleled qualifications in all medical specialties to run this giant in line with the best in international standards,” he added.

The group also plans to establish 30 new healthcare facilities and create over 50,000 jobs, and institute five medical colleges by 2020.
