Young woman dies after beach worker allegedly strikes her with umbrella pole in Alexandria
A relative told investigators that the dispute began when Rania intervened to defend her brother during an argument with the beach worker over a spot near the sea

A 27-year-old Egyptian woman died after she was allegedly struck with a wooden beach umbrella pole while trying to defend her brother during a fight with a beach worker at Canary Beach in Al Hanouville, west of Alexandria.
The dispute reportedly began over the family’s seating spot near the sea, according to Egyptian media and local authorities.

Dispute over seating
The woman, identified as Rania, 27, a housewife, suffered several injuries, including a bruise to the right side of her scalp and abrasions to her neck and face.
Initial investigations found that a verbal dispute broke out between Rania, her 15-year-old brother, Abdel Wahab, and Mohamed, 17, a beach umbrella worker, after the family tried to sit near the sea, according to media reports.
A relative told investigators that the disagreement began when the worker objected to their choice of seating, leading to an argument with Rania’s brother.
The dispute escalated into a physical fight. When Rania intervened to defend her brother and break up the fight, the worker allegedly pushed her in the chest, causing her to fall.
When she got back up, he allegedly struck her on the head with a wooden beach umbrella pole, causing her to collapse unconscious.
Investigation underway
The woman was taken to hospital after sustaining her injuries, but attempts to save her were unsuccessful, according to a relative who spoke to investigators.
Her body was later transferred to the ambulance mortuary in the Kom El-Dikka area.
The Dekheila Prosecution is investigating the circumstances of the fight and the woman’s death and taking the necessary legal measures, according to local media reports.
