'Our people have defied attacks': UAE envoy briefs UN on Iran's 'unlawful' strikes

In a statement, the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed a UN Security Resolution that called on Iran to halt its attacks on Gulf states

UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, briefed the international body today on strikes against the nation since the regional conflict began on February 28, 2026.

Abushanab has also expressed the UAE's complete solidarity with GCC countries and Jordan which were also targeted by Iran's "continued unlawful and unprovoked" attacks.

During his speech that focused on Iranian attacks against the UAE, the envoy praised the resilience and steadfastness of UAE residents in the face of these strikes.

"Iran has sought to spread terror among our community, but our people have defied that, enduring the attacks with remarkable resilience and unity," he said, while stressing that the UAE did not want this conflict and made it clear that it would not allow the use of its airspace or territories in attacking Iran.

UAE welcomes UN Security Council Resolution

In a later statement, the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which condemns in the strongest terms the unprovoked missile and drone attacks by the Iran against the UAE, fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and Jordan, and demands that Iran cease these attacks immediately.
 
"The adoption of this resolution follows several letters submitted on behalf of the GCC States and the UAE to the President of the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General.

"The letters detailed the scale and impact of Iran’s attacks on the UAE and the wider region, calling for urgent and decisive action by the international community, including the Security Council. Iran is liable for all injury and damage caused to impacted countries as a result of its unlawful armed attacks," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the UAE has reaffirmed its inherent right to self-defense, individually or collectively, as recognized in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and to take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to defend its territory, people, and vital facilities against any aggression or threat to its security and territorial integrity.
