The decision was taken in light of the ongoing exceptional circumstances
Iranians will be exempt from overstay fines in the UAE, whether they are residents or entering the country on any type of visa, the country's Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) said on Tuesday.
The decision comes "in response to the exceptional circumstances that the region is witnessing and to provide relief to this group of people who were unable to return to their homeland, due to the closure of airspace and the suspension of flights", it said.
Israel and Iran are involved in an air war since Friday when the former launched attacks on nuclear and military sites in the Islamic Republic. Iran has responded with missile attacks on Israel. The conflict entered its fifth day on Tuesday.
The decision to waive the overstaying fine for Iranian residents or those coming with any kind of visa was taken under the directives of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The ICP has encouraged Iranian expats eligible for this exemption to register through the smart services platform or visit customer happiness centres across the UAE.
Last month, Sudanese nationals in the UAE were also exempt from all fines related to residence and entry permits, starting May 19.
According to the ICP, the exemption will remain in effect until December 31, 2025.
The decision comes as part of the UAE’s efforts to ease the humanitarian impact of the ongoing crisis in Sudan and reflects the country's commitment to supporting affected communities. ICP noted that it aligns with national efforts to strengthen social and humanitarian well-being for UAE residents.
