Iran issued a notice to airmen (Notam) that it plans rocket launches in areas across its south on Thursday from 03.30 GMT to 13.30 GMT, the US Federal Aviation Administration website showed on Wednesday.

Iran conducted navy drills this week in the Hormuz Strait and plans to conduct a joint naval exercise with Russia on Thursday.

The notice was issued amid heightened tensions with the US, which has deployed warships near Iran, as US Vice President JD Vance said Washington was weighing whether to continue diplomatic engagement with Tehran or pursue other options.

The Notam system provides pilots, flight crews and other users of airspace with critical safety notices.

On Tuesday, Iran said it will partially shut down the Strait of Hormuz for a few hours, as it held talks over its disputed nuclear programme with the United States, which has sent a battle force to the Gulf to press Tehran to make concessions.

Tehran has in the past threatened to shut down the strait to commercial shipping if it is attacked, a move that would choke off a fifth of global oil flows and drive up crude prices.
