Arrests made in Bahrain over posts promoting, glorifying 'hostile terrorist acts'

Some of the defendants' social media posts included content that incite instability in the Kingdom

Several defendants were ordered to remain in custody pending investigation in Bahrain over sharing social media posts that promote and glorify 'hostile terrorist acts' against the Kingdom, according to the Chief of Terrorist Crimes Prosecution in the Gulf country.

This comes as the US-Israel-Iran war entered Day 17, with no sign yet of a breakthrough, as Gulf states continue to defend themselves against Iranian attacks.

Bahrain's defence forces managed to intecept and destroy 129 missles and 215 drones since the war erupted on February 28, 2026 with US-Israeli strikes against Iran.

Bahrain has recently arrested four people on espionage charges with Iran's Revilutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), while identifying a fifth accused in the case who is at large.

The most recent arrests in Bahrain followed reports by the Anti-Cybercrime Directorate over a number of social media accounts which were systematically sharing videos that:

  • Glorify, promote, and encourage terrorist hostilities against the Kingdom.

  • Support the "sinful Iranian aggression" targeting Bahrain.

  • Broadcast content inciting the destabilization of internal security and national stability.

Authorities interrogated the accused regarding the illegal content shared by their accounts. The eletronic devices they used to manage these accounts were also examined.

The Bahraini Public Prosecution has ordered the defendants to be held in pre-trial detention and has referred them for an urgent trial before the competent court.
