Mumbai - A security agency contractor was shot at by a gunman at the Film City here on Friday afternoon, very close to where superstar Amitabh Bachchan was shooting for a film.

According to a police spokesman, a man wearing a helmet walked up to where Raju Shinde, the security contractor, was sitting, pulled out a gun and fired three shots, two of which hit him on the stomach.

The assailant then ran out of the compound, where an associate picked him on a bike. However, when other security-men began chasing them, they abandoned the bike and ran into the near-by forests.

The police have seized the bike and are probing as to whether it was stolen. Shinde was rushed to a local hospital, where he was said to be critical. Police sources refused to speculate whether it was a gang-war related firing, or related to some extortion demand.

The firing took place at around 2pm, and about two hours later, Bachchan tweeted: “Okay!! Shooting at Film City...and a gang war shootout 20 feet from where we are..!!1 dead.cops all over..”

Actor Alok Nath, who was also at the film city, tweeted: “Actual, real shooting at Film City next to our set. One man critically injured rushed to hospital.”

Located in Goregaon, a north-western Mumbai suburb, the state government-owned Film City has facilities for indoor and outdoor shootings.

Not very far from the Borivali national park, the Film City is surrounded by thick forests.
