The 37-year-old youth, who arrived at the Karipur International Airport at Calicut along with his Filipina wife and two children in the afternoon, was given an emotional welcome by his family members, friends and workers of various political parties.

The Qatar Malayalee Association had organised a grand welcome for Biju, who spent nearly 14 months in the captivity of his abductors, at the airport. Biju managed to escape from their clutches when they were fast asleep after fasting for Ramadan.

Biju told his family members that he had never expected that he would return to his home land. “The chance for my escape was given by the God”, he said while embracing his close relatives. He also thanked the Philippine and the Government of India for the efforts they made to release him from the kidnappers.

He said that the authorities in both the countries had done their best to bring him to safety.

Biju was kidnapped when he went to his wife’s house at Patikul in the southern province of Philippines.

He had married the Filipina women while both were working in Kuwait.

Biju told reporters that he would return to Kuwait to take up his old job on September 2.
