Karzai last week announced he would delay an inauguration planned for Jan. 23, to allow a special election court to continue fraud probes, but lawmakers furious with the decision have been threatening to meet on Sunday as originally scheduled.

Younus Qanuni, who has been chosen as an unofficial speaker for parliament, said he and a delegation of members of parliament who had been in talks with Karzai would take the offer to a larger group of lawmakers for a final decision.
