Iranian response to nuclear proposal inadequate: US

WASHINGTON - The U.S. State Department on Tuesday said Iran’s response to a proposal by six major powers to enrich uranium for a research reactor in Tehran was “inadequate.”

The powers working to curb Iran’s nuclear program last year proposed Tehran ship low-enriched uranium abroad for further enrichment so it could be used in a research reactor. Iran effectively ignored a Dec. 31 deadline to respond to the deal.

“It is clearly an inadequate response,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters.
