Iran confirms killing of Guards navy commander Alireza Tangsiri

A native of Bushehr, he rose through the ranks to lead the IRGC Navy in 2018 and oversaw what Iran calls the 'smart control' of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran confirmed on Monday that Revolutionary Guards commander Alireza Tangsiri had been killed, days after Israel said it targeted him in an air strike.

A statement carried by the Guards' Sepah News website said Tangsiri "succumbed to severe injuries" from the attack.

A native of Bushehr, he rose through the ranks to lead the IRGC Navy in 2018 and oversaw what Iran calls the "smart control" of the Strait of Hormuz, restricting passage through the vital global oil route.
