Senior journalist and Editor-in-chief of Asianet News, a popular news channel in Malayalam, passed away at a private hospital in the Kerala capital of Trivandrum early on Saturday.
T N GopaKumar was 58 and leaves behind his wife and two daughters. He was undergoing treatment for cancer for some time. The end came at around 4am, according to family sources.
A large number of people, including political leaders, film personalities and media personnel turned up at the Press Club to pay homage for him when his body was brought there around 3pm. The cremation was held with full state honours at Thycaud Shanti Kavadam later in the evening.
Gopakumar, fondly known as TNG, started his journalistic career with Indian Express and went on to work with Mathrubhumi, News Time, Statesman, Independent and India Today. He also worked for BBC Radio.
