Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has confirmed that Imran Khan had indeed met Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri in London before the two leaders led separate marches on the capital on Independence Day last month.

Qureshi, however, trashed the propaganda campaign unleashed by the government that the two leaders had hatched a ‘London Plan’ to weaken the country, disrupt its economy, divert attention from army operation and finally undermine the Chinese president’s projected trip with pledges to invest $34 billion in infra-structure and energy.

“What’s the harm in meeting of two politicians who know each other and have been meeting in the past as well,” Qureshi said and dismissed as frivolous the allegation that they had prepared a conspiracy in the meeting.

Referring to an earlier denial by PTI spokesperson that any meeting had taken place, Qureshi said Shireen Mazari was not aware about the meeting.

Also on Saturday night, Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Dr Tahirul Qadri said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had managed to exonerate himself in 143 corruption cases after coming to power 15 months ago with the help of a hand-picked chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A NAB spokesman denied the allegation. -news@khaleejtimes.com
