Prince Alwaleed, known as the 'Sleeping Prince', was pronounced dead by the Saudi Royal Court on Saturday after he spent nearly 20 years in a coma.
After a car accident in 2005, the prince—born in 1990—suffered a brain haemorrhage and had remained in a coma ever since, as his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, held firmly to the hope of a miraculous recovery.
Funeral prayers for the late prince were held on Sunday after Asr prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, where his father Prince Khalid and his uncle—Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the renowned Saudi businessman—stood in the front row among the worshippers.
