Rajab crescent not spotted in Oman, ministry says

After Rajab concludes, Shaban begins with its own moon sighting, followed by Ramadan, which starts only when the Ramadan crescent is sighted

Oman on Saturday said that it had not spotted the Rajab crescent, meaning Monday will be the first month of Rajab 1447 AH.

In a statement, the country's Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs said that "the crescent moon marking the beginning of the month of Rajab 1447 AH was not sighted after sunset this evening, Saturday, the 29th of Jumada al-Akhirah 1447 АН."

This sighting holds significance because it starts the three-month spiritual journey leading to Ramadan, Islam's holiest month of fasting and devotion.

The Rajab crescent was however spotted earlier on Saturday, December 20, in the UAE.

The timeline from Rajab to Ramadan goes through lunar observations. After Rajab concludes, Shaban begins with its own moon sighting, followed by Ramadan, which starts only when the Ramadan crescent is sighted.

This typically occurs about two lunar months after Rajab begins, though the exact timing depends on actual moon sightings.
