The results of the first phase of inspections that saw 69 public and private schools being scrutinised has been declared to give parents an indicator of each school's performance, which falls under the 'outstanding, good, acceptable and unsatisfactory' categories.
Four private schools – Jumeirah College, Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah English Speaking School Branch in Arabian Ranches and Kings Dubai have topped the list as outstanding schools. However, six other private schools – Deans International School, Grammar School, Star International School – Al Twar, The Oxford School, Arab Unity School and Al Ameen Private School have been ranked unsatisfactory. Interestingly, none of the public schools, monitored by the Ministry of Education, made it to the outstanding category.
A total of about 189 public and private schools will be ranked by May 17 – the deadline set by authorities to reveal all the inspection results to parents. However, the remaining 31 Indian, Pakistani and Iranian schools will be assessed only next year.
Schools have been assessed on seven different criteria after teams of three to five inspectors spent between three to five days in each school. Two-thirds of their time was spent in classrooms, observing how students learnt and made progress. Inspectors also conducted interviews with students for feedback on the school and with teachers to assess the quality of care, health and safety of students.
The reports highlight key findings from the inspections, particularly the strengths of the school and recommendations for improvement.
