He further said that the economic and political situation of the country demands close cooperation among the political leadership to facilitate the implementation of policies.

During a meeting with Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Senior Minister and Minister for Defence Production, and Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Minister for Labour and Manpower, here on afternoon, Gilani said that despite financial constraints, the government has presented a balanced budget with the objective to provide maximum relief to the common man.

The prime minister said that the overall economic outlook of the country is encouraging.

He said that exports have crossed $25 billion while foreign remittances during the financial year will be more than $11 billion. He further stated that bumper wheat production would ensure food security and also bring prosperity to the rural areas.

While appreciating the government’s consistent policies, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that despite the devastating floods of last year which caused $10 billion loss and economic losses due to ‘war on terror’, the country has shown a remarkable resilience. He hoped that the economic performance during the financial year 2011-12 would be much better and help to recoup last year’s damages.
