The Ministerial Council of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has welcomed the agreement reached the other day between political parties in Yemen, hoping that it leads to a cessation of violence and enhancement of security and stability of Yemen.

During its coordination meeting on the sidelines of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Council expressed deep regret and grave concern at the recent events in Yemen.

The ministerial council stressed its standing with fraternal Yemen and support for Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and his efforts in maintaining legitimacy and preventing bloodshed, calling on all parties to put the national interest in the forefront, avoid incitement, and adhere to a political approach that makes Yemen avoid sliding into chaos and violence threatening its security, stability and unity.

The UAE delegation to the meeting was led by Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Abdullah also met Hadi Al Bahra, president of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, on the sidelines of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, Shaikh Abdullah was briefed on the developments of the situation in Syria and discussed the political and humanitarian developments in the country. Shaikh Abdullah stressed the UAE’s support for the legitimate demands of the Syrian people and the unity of the nation.

The two sides also discussed the developments and support for the international coalition in the fight against terrorism in the region. The meeting was attended by Major General Fares Al Mazrouei, Assistant Foreign Minister for Security and Military Affairs and Yousef Mana’a Saeed Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the US .
