GCC Excellence Award in Health Media aims to boost cooperation

MANAMA — The third version of the Gulf Excellence Award in Health Media will be launched under the slogan of “Boosting Juvenile Health by promoting proper healthy lifestyles such as physical exercise, nutrition and abstaining from smoking”.

The annual GCC Excellence Award was introduced in 2009 by a GCC health media awareness committee in the executive office of GCC health ministers.

Gulf Health Awareness & Media committee member Dr Amal Al Jowder said in a statement some of the most significant goals of this award include developing the spirit of inventiveness and creativity for GCC health awareness and health media personnel.

It also aims to encourage creative people in the private sector to contribute in disease prevention and boosting health and draw the attention of government media organisations to the importance of health awareness and enhancing partnership with private media organisations in order to achieve maximum participation in this award from all audio-visual and electronic GCC and Arab media in addition to the relevant governmental and private bodies. All individual citizens’ or resident expatriates’ creativity will be entered which serve the field of health orientation and boosting health in the Gulf region.

Dr Al Jowder cited the fields in which the award is given and said they include health-related short articles meant for children, newspaper articles and webpages and publications. She added that this also includes TV and Radio short thesis.

The best 5 works in each of the aforesaid fields will be selected. The closing date for submission of works for each country is November 30. Cash and other prizes will be presented during the annual ceremony to be held on the peripheries of the GCC health ministers’ meeting in February.

The winners will be invited to attend the celebration to be held in the Sultanate of Oman in February 2012.
