Fast and effective Retirement procedures directed

The Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, has issued orders to adopt more mechanisms that can help speed up the completion of retirement procedures for employees of ministries and state departments through spending end-of-service benefits or pensions without delay, instructing the concerned sides to implement the order immediately and ensure that General Directorate of Customs’ retirees receive their pensions.

In this context, he reiterated the government’s appreciation for all public sector workers who have dedicated their life in the service of the kingdom and its citizens, stressing that retirement procedures should be fast and effective. He also praised the role played by national media in shedding light on issues that are directly related to the citizens’ daily life.

Summer Festival 2012 
a great success

The fourth edition of Bahrain Summer Festival 2012 has recorded a great success with many people having flocked to Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre to get a relish of various international shows that suit every taste and age.

The festival, which was held from June 15 to July 15 under the theme “Manama — the City of Happiness”, was able to attract more than 310,00 visitors which clearly indicates success of the annual initiative launched by the Culture Ministry as well as stability of the tourism sector in Bahrain.

The Culture Ministry was keen to ensure that the festival tunes up with celebrating “Manama — the Capital of Arab Culture 2012”.

Charity scheme to 
make children smile

Maqaba Charity Fund is making efforts for 15 years to bring smiles to needy children through its annual charity project “Make a Child Happy”.

Organised every Ramadan, the fund has started collecting new clothes and toys for needy children across the country.

The project aims to offer needy children reasons to be happy. It is considered one of the most important and biggest annual charity activities of the fund conducted in support of youngsters from financially disadvantaged families, Chairman of the Fund Ali Hassan Al Zaki, said, adding that through the campaign new clothes and toys will be donated to the children during Eid.

The fund has placed boxes at various locations. These boxes could be filled with clothing and toys by people.

He said once these boxes are filled, items are collected and sorted. After evaluation, the fund will start distributing toys and clothing among children according to each child’s age and family’s social and financial status.

Female students invent smart bag

Two female students have invented a smart bag which can remind women of things they should carry in their bags before leaving home.

The University of Bahrain IT students, Masooma Al Sayed Faisal and Hawra Al Hawaj, used the RFED technology in inventing the bag that aims to help ladies who often forget to carry important stuff when leaving their houses.

Though this invention any bag can be turned into a smart bag by fixing a device into it.

The system employs a small screen inside the bag that checks its contents and tells the woman if the bag has everything.

The device could be programmed by users to tag important stuff such as wallet, cell phone and keys.

The smart bag works with radio frequencies between the device and the selected items.
