Environmental Tribunal judge shot dead in Pakistan

Unknown attackers gunned down Environmental Tribunal judge Sakhi Sultan in Shahbaz Town area of Quetta on Friday.

According to police, the incident occurred in Shahbaz Town when unidentified armed attackers entered the Environmental Protection Tribunal office and opened fire on Sakhi Sultan, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rushed to the hospital where he died before any treatment was provided to him.

The assailants fled from the scene.

After the killing of Sakhi Sultan, several members of the legal fraternity and the deceased judge’s family gathered at the hospital.

Sakhi served as a senior lawyer at the Supreme Court and high court, and was currently working as a judge of the Environmental Tribunal.

In the past, he had also been associated with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Following his murder, Pakistan Bar Council, Balochistan High Court and Balochistan Bar Association announced two days of mourning and boycott of court proceedings.

President of Balochistan Bar Association Bilal Anwar Kasi and President of Balochistan High Court Bar Mir Zahoor Shahwani strongly condemned the killing of Sakhi Sultan and said that lawyers will boycott court proceedings on Monday and Tuesday. — Online
