Cairo — Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El Sisi has pledged to carry out swift justice following the car bomb attack that killed the country’s chief prosecutor the day before.
He says he will amend laws to speed up proceedings against the extremists.
El Sisi says the “judiciary is restricted by laws, and swift justice is also restricted by laws. We will not wait for that... We will amend the laws that will enable us to execute the law, and bring justice as soon as possible.”
He spoke on Tuesday at the funeral for Hisham Barakat who was assassinated in Monday’s car bombing.
El Sisi described Barakat as a “martyr.”
