Talking to The News here, the interior minister said that the government and the Pakistan Army are on the same page and completely support the option of dialogue as the top priority to check terrorism and extremism in the country.

Chaudhry Nisar said that he does not want to talk about any other option in case the dialogue option does not work.

“Our priority is dialogue, and we don’t want to talk of anything else right now,” he said.

Chaudhry Nisar said that the PML-N has been opposed to the post-9/11 policies of the Pervez Musharraf government.

The interior minister lamented that the media recently incorrectly reported that the Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) had set the condition that the government would talk to only those extremist groups that would lay down their arms.

“It was totally baseless,” the minister said, adding that the Defence Committee meeting never discussed this.

Criticising former military ruler Gen. Pervez Musharraf’s decision to throw Pakistan into the American-led war on terror after the 9/11 attacks, Chaudhry Nisar said: “We need to understand that every action leads to reaction.”

The interior minister added that no Pakistani was involved in the 9/11 attacks but still Pakistan has been dragged into this war, and now our people, our children and our security forces are being killed.
