Comedian Jagathy injured in accident
TRIVANDRUM - Popular Malayalam comedian Jagathy Sreekumar was seriously injured in a road accident in Kerala's northern city of Calicut on the wee hours of Saturday.

The actor, who was rushed to a private hospital in the city, is reported to be out of danger. A four-member team of doctors subjected him to an emergency surgery to contain the bleeding in the abdomen. The operation lasted for two hours.
Dr Venugopal, who headed the team of doctors attending on the actor, said that the bleeding was caused by the wounds in the liver. The actor also sustained multiple fractures and injuries on his head, chest and abdomen.
The doctor said Jagathy's condition was stable after the surgery. His blood pressure is normal. The actor, who has been shifted to intensive care unit after the surgery will be closely monitored for 48 hours, the doctor said.
The accident occurred when the car in which he was travelling rammed into a median while negotiating a dangerous curve on the National Highway No.17 at around 4.45am near the Calicut University at Thenhipalam in Malappuram district.
Jagathy was sitting in the front seat with the driver when the mishap occurred. The driver also suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Jagathy was on his way from Trichur to Coorg in Karnataka, headed to the location of a film being shot by Lenin Rajendran. The actor was taken immediately in a car to Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences. He was conscious when he was brought to the hospital but soon his condition worsened.
Jagathy has acted in more than 1,100 Malayalam films especially in comedy roles. He has won the state government's award in different categories four times. The accident has hit more than a dozen films which are under various stages of production.
Several of his colleagues, like Madhu and Jagadeesh, visited the hospital. A large number of his fans have gathered outside the hospital.
