Hyderabad will soon be adding yet another feather to its cap, poised as it is to become the destination for start-ups. The 'T-Hub,' billed as India's biggest incubation facility for the Information Technology industry, is all set to be inaugurated by Tata Group Chairman Emeritus and noted industrialist Ratan Tata in the capital on September 7.
Speaking about the 'T-Hub,' Telangana Information Technology and Communications Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said: "The objective is to promote start-ups and innovators and providing an ideal platform to take up research in the IT sector. The first phase of the T-hub is spread over 60,000 square feet and will accommodate 800 start-ups."
The facility, set up at Gachibowli in the city, would be showcased as a major initiative during the World IT Congress to be hosted here in 2018 by which time the second phase would also be ready. The second phase will have a built-up space of 300,000 sq ft and can host 5,000 start-ups, the official said.
State Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao, stating that the aim was to make Hyderabad the start-up capital of India, said the T-hub had been developed in collaboration with IIIT, Hyderabad, Indian School of Business (ISB) and NALSAR University of Law at a cost of Rs350 million. "The corpus fund of T-Hub would be Rs 3 billion by 2017 and would double in three years. It is expected to generate annual employment of 3,000 by 2017 and 10,000 by 2020," the Minister said.
"Through the incubation centre, we want to give a platform to the youth who have innovative ideas. We don't want aspiring and budding entrepreneurs to be bogged down with legal, accounting, office space management, mentoring support and funding hassles," he said.
The ISB would provide business mentoring, while IIIT will take care of technology mentoring and NALSAR would help in intellectual property rights and related areas.
The T-Hub will be a platform to accelerate the growth of technology start-ups in Hyderabad by providing them an ecosystem of quality infrastructure, mentors and fund managers. It would be incubator of incubators which would enable all the technology incubators in the ecosystem.
"We want Hyderabad to be identified with start-ups. In the West, universities played a big role in nurturing young talent, which ultimately created huge IT companies. We will provide similar environment to Indian start-ups in Hyderabad.
