Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim is on a visit to Balochistan to review law and order amid threats by insurgents and militant organisations

The militants seeking independence of Balochistan have threatened to disrupt elections and recently killed a senior election official with the result that in most parts of the province the offices of the commission have been vacated by the staff out of fear.

In a positive development, four major nationalist parties representing Baloch and Pashtun segments of population in the province led by Akhtar Mengal, Saleem Bugti , Hasil Bizenjo and Mahmood Khan Achakzai have declared their willingness to participate in elections but demanded an end to the interference of security agencies in the polls which had earlier compelled them to boycott the 2008 elections.
