Bahrain's Gulf Air partners with UN for the MY World Survey

Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has entered into a partnership with the United Nations in Bahrain, supporting the MY World Survey in recognition of the importance of raising awareness of sustainable development goals.

Peter Grohmann, the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative explained: “Created by the United Nations, the MY World Survey is the first global survey. It is designed to utilise people’s voices and opinions to help shape the post-2015 global development agenda and therefore, allows world citizens to submit their six priorities, from a list of 16, which they believe would have the most impact on their future.”

Gulf Air’s chief operations officer, Captain Nasser Al Salmi endorsed Gulf Air’s cooperation and commitment to the MY World Survey: “As the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, we at Gulf Air commit to participate and contribute to the future of the globe and I sincerely hope that all the citizens and residents of Bahrain join us in supporting this very important initiative by voting online.”

The UN set up a voting booth at Gulf Air at which all employees were given the opportunity to vote for the six issues which would make the most difference to their lives.

Lulu is first hypermarket tobe awarded ISO certificate

Lulu Hypermarket has celebrated its becoming the very first hypermarket in Bahrain to win the ISO 22000-2005, thus raising the bar on its already admirable food safety standards. The certification comes as part of the hypermarket’s commitment to continuous improvement and high standards of food quality, hygiene and taste.

ISO 22000 is a food safety management standard that is globally used by organisations directly or indirectly involved in the food chain including retailers such as big hypermarkets who run their own kitchens and frozen and fresh food sections.

Batelco awarded ISO certificates

Batelco, Bahrain’s leading telecommunications company has been presented with three new ISO Certificates in Information Security (ISO 27001), following a thorough and vigorous auditing process conducted by Certification Bureau Veritas.

Batelco is the first telecommunications company in Bahrain and the Middle East to expand its activity in Information Security after the three units, namely e-Services, Retail Operations and DataCentre, received ISO 27001 certification.

This in turn assures customers that Batelco applies the global Information Security standards in implementing its daily transactions.

GFH Capital acquires prime property in central London

GFH Capital, a fully owned subsidiary of Bahrain based Gulf Finance House, has announced the completion of the acquisition of a prime central London residential property.

Located in Kensington, the property is a Grade II listed building, overlooking the Queens Gate Gardens. This investment is in line with GFH Capital’s strategy to identify attractive opportunities in developed markets like the UK, where it has already made considerable investments.

Commenting on the acquisition, Hisham Al Rayes, managing director of GFH Capital, said: “We are delighted to announce the conclusion of another successful transaction in the UK. The property we have acquired is located in the heart of prime central London, where we expect above average capital appreciation to continue over the medium term.”

Move to set up institute for real estate professionals

A key memorandum of understanding was signed between the Bahrain Property Development Association (BaPDA) and Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI), declaring its aim to establish the first institute for the training of real estate professionals in Bahrain.

It will also help in strengthening partnerships to provide training activities and develop the skills of the national force in the real estate sector. This is also in line with the nationalization of jobs by making Bahrainis suitably qualified to become the first choice of employers.
